YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Development Engineer at Blackwave, you develop and industrialize manufacturing processes for advanced composite and metal technologies used in our next-generation COPVs and aerospace space solutions.

You drive the transition from prototype to serial production, working hands-on with components, materials, composite winding, and advanced metal manufacturing technologies, including laser beam welding, friction stir welding, heat treatment, spin forming, flow forming, and roll bending. You optimize manufacturing processes, fixtures, and molding tools to ensure our solutions are lightweight, reliable, efficient, and flight-ready.

THE WHY

At Blackwave, we develop advanced COPVs and innovative space solutions for demanding aerospace applications. Combining composite and metal technologies is key to creating lightweight, high-performance products that meet the requirements of spaceflight.

This role connects innovation and production, turning new ideas, materials, and technologies into scalable manufacturing processes and reliable solutions for real-world aerospace applications.

YOUR IMPACT

You don't just develop components. You turn advanced composite and metal technologies into reliable, scalable, flight-ready space solutions.

You ensure:

  • Advanced composite and metal components are developed with a focus on lightweight construction and high performance
  • Manufacturing technologies and processes are scaled and optimized for reliable serial production
  • The team has a strong technical point of contact for materials, manufacturing processes, and metal technologies

You develop and manufacture advanced composite and metal components for COPVs and aerospace applications, supporting the entire journey from initial prototypes to full-scale manufacturing. You evaluate materials, technologies, and manufacturing approaches to deliver high-performance space solutions.

→ High Performance: Develop lightweight, high-performance solutions for demanding aerospace applications.

You design and optimize components and manufacturing processes using composite and metal technologies, balancing weight, structural performance, manufacturability, and reliability. You take ownership of the technical quality and performance of your solutions.

→ Accountability: Take ownership of the technical quality and performance of your solutions.

You contribute your own ideas, concepts, and creativity to fast, iterative development cycles. You collaborate across disciplines and departments to turn new approaches into practical, manufacturable solutions for advanced space applications.

→ Togetherness: Collaborate across disciplines to turn ideas into working solutions.

You scale, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes to enable efficient, stable, and reliable serial production. You work with advanced metal manufacturing technologies, including laser beam welding, friction stir welding, heat treatment, spin forming, flow forming, and roll bending, to develop and industrialize high-performance metal components for aerospace applications.

→ Candor: Identify challenges openly and drive practical solutions.

You support the team as a key technical contact for materials and manufacturing processes related to components, composite winding, metal forming and joining, heat treatment, fixtures, and molding tools. You stay curious about new materials and methods and explore opportunities to improve our manufacturing capabilities.

→ Playfulness: Experiment with new approaches and push the boundaries of lightweight engineering.

Important Note: This role focuses on Development Engineering and the industrialization of our COPVs and related space solutions. We are not currently hiring for Software Development positions.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Materials Science, or a related technical field
  • Initial professional experience with manufacturing processes, composite materials, or lightweight construction
  • Hands-on understanding of composite technologies, ideally including winding processes.
  • Excellent English language skills (at least C1)
  • Experience with metal manufacturing technologies such as laser beam welding, friction stir welding, heat treatment, spin forming, flow forming, or roll bending
  • German language skills
