Senior Performance & Reliability Engineer
Remora is seeking a Senior Performance & Reliability Engineer to build and own the performance analytics function for our growing fleet of industrial carbon capture systems. This individual will build the function from the ground up, establishing KPIs, performance baselines, monitoring systems, and analytical tools that turn operational data into actionable insights around system performance, reliability, commissioning, and maintenance. This is a highly autonomous role for someone comfortable operating with limited direction, working directly with engineering teams to understand complex hardware and developing scalable analytics that can grow from individual systems to an entire fleet.
We’re building modular carbon capture systems, turning exhaust into beverage-grade CO₂ sold to breweries and greenhouses. We deploy in regions facing severe CO₂ shortages, where prices are highest, allowing us to generate high margins without relying on tax credits or carbon credits.
We’ve raised over $115 million in funding from top investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Valor Equity Partners.
Responsibilities
- Build the performance analytics function from the ground up, establishing the strategy, tools, processes, and standards for monitoring deployed hardware.
- Define system-level KPIs, performance metrics, operating baselines, and acceptable ranges for carbon capture systems and supporting equipment.
- Develop scalable analytics and dashboards to monitor fleet performance, availability, efficiency, CO₂ capture and production, equipment health, and degradation.
- Partner with controls and systems engineers to leverage Ignition SCADA, SQL historians, and other operational data sources for automated performance monitoring.
- Build automated reporting and visualization tools that provide engineers and leadership with clear visibility into system performance.
- Develop anomaly detection, leading-indicator monitoring, and performance degradation models to identify emerging issues before they result in failures or downtime.
- Develop fleet benchmarking capabilities to compare performance across systems, operating conditions, sites, and equipment configurations.
- Support commissioning and deployment by building analytical tools for performance validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Translate physical system behavior and engineering knowledge into meaningful performance metrics and analytical models.
- Establish data quality, calculation, and reporting standards across the fleet.
- Develop analytical approaches that can evolve toward predictive maintenance and reliability modeling as fleet data grows.
- Establish the foundation for a future performance analytics and reliability engineering function as the company scales.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in performance engineering, reliability engineering, industrial analytics, data science, controls, or a similar technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience building analytical or performance-monitoring capabilities from the ground up with limited direction.
- Strong SQL experience working with large industrial, operational, or time-series datasets.
- Strong Python or similar programming experience for data analysis, statistical modeling, and automation.
- Experience working with industrial equipment, complex electromechanical systems, manufacturing, energy systems, or other physical assets.
- Experience developing automated dashboards, monitoring systems, reporting tools, or other data-driven applications.
- Strong understanding of time-series analysis, statistical process control, anomaly detection, reliability analysis, and root-cause analysis.
Here’s what we value:
- Mission First: We are laser-focused on our mission. We have chosen to take on the defining challenge of our time, and we don’t shy away from the hard decisions required to put our mission first, no matter how tough. The world needs our technology and it won’t happen any time soon if we don’t make it happen. We are a low-ego team, and we prioritize the mission over our self-interest. We think strategically with an eye to the long term, and we clearly separate what must be done well now, and what can be improved later, despite ambiguity.
