Job Title: Locum Band 7 Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist – Dysphagia and Neonates – Hounslow

Banding: Band 7

Location: Heart of Hounslow, London

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £26.00–£32.00 per hour

Working Hours: Full-time or part-time

Contract Duration: To be confirmed

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and specialist Band 7 Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) with expertise in dysphagia and neonatal care to join a community children's service in Hounslow.

This role is ideal for a confident and autonomous clinician with experience managing children with complex feeding and swallowing difficulties, particularly neonates and infants under one year of age.

The successful candidate will predominantly work within the Community Children's Dysphagia Clinic, based at Heart of Hounslow, with some clinics and visits across the wider borough. You will work closely with dietitians, community nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide specialist assessment, clinical management and ongoing support to children and their families.

The role will involve covering an existing vacancy and supporting a smooth clinical handover. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to utilise their specialist skills within a collaborative community healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Independently assess and manage children presenting with dysphagia and complex feeding difficulties.
  • Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input for neonates and infants under one year of age.
  • Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments and develop individualised dysphagia management plans.
  • Provide evidence-based advice and recommendations to support safe and effective feeding practices.
  • Work collaboratively with dietitians, community nurses and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Support families and carers by providing guidance on feeding strategies and the management of swallowing difficulties.
  • Manage an autonomous community caseload, prioritising clinical needs and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Deliver clinic appointments primarily at Heart of Hounslow, with additional clinics and visits across the borough as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.
  • Support the transition and handover of the existing caseload to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
  • Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Extensive relevant experience in paediatric Speech and Language Therapy, appropriate to a Band 7 specialist role.
  • Specialist experience in the assessment and management of paediatric dysphagia.
  • Demonstrable experience working with neonates and children under one year of age.
  • The ability to independently manage a caseload of children with complex feeding and swallowing needs.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with families and carers.
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing clinical priorities.

Previous experience in a community children's dysphagia service would be advantageous.
