Location: Wood Street Health Centre, 6 Linford Road, London, E17 3LA

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £20.00–£32.00 per hour

Working Hours: Part-time or full-time

Contract Duration: 3 months

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a service based at Wood Street Health Centre in London on a locum basis for an initial period of three months.

This role focuses on supporting children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will work collaboratively with education, health and social care professionals to promote inclusive practice, improve access to learning, and ensure children receive appropriate support to meet their individual communication needs.

The successful candidate will provide specialist advice and professional input to Education Inclusion Panels, SEND Panels and multi-disciplinary decision-making forums. You will contribute to placement decisions, early intervention planning and targeted support, helping mainstream educational settings reduce barriers to learning and improve children's participation, attendance and engagement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist seeking a varied locum role where they can use their clinical expertise to influence service delivery, support inclusive education and improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide specialist advice and professional input to Education Inclusion Panels, SEND Panels and multi-disciplinary decision-making forums to support placement decisions, early intervention planning and inclusive practice.
  • Attend and contribute to Education Panel meetings, presenting professional assessments and advising on speech, language and communication needs.
  • Support decisions regarding appropriate provision, outreach services and targeted interventions for children and young people with SEND.
  • Deliver assessments, interventions and reviews within educational settings to identify and address speech, language and communication needs.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health and social care professionals to develop effective, child-centred support strategies.
  • Support mainstream educational settings to reduce barriers to learning and improve participation, attendance and engagement for children with SEND.
  • Contribute to service evaluation, impact measurement and reporting against Experts at Hand outcomes and local SEND priorities.
  • Promote inclusive practice and support the implementation of strategies that improve communication, learning and educational outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification.
  • Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Experience delivering assessments, interventions and reviews within educational settings.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team alongside education, health and social care professionals.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, including autism, learning difficulties and social communication needs.
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide specialist advice and contribute confidently to multi-agency discussions.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and contribute effectively to service development and evaluation.
