## Description (the employer's text)

### Opportunity

An outstanding opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Oncology team at an NHS Foundation Trust serving the community of West Norfolk and the surrounding region. We are seeking a motivated and clinically excellent Consultant in Medical Oncology with subspecialty expertise in Breast and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) oncology.

This is a clinically rich and professionally rewarding post. The successful candidate will hold a central role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and will work at the heart of our multidisciplinary oncology service. The post spans both outpatient clnic work and the MDT-led management of patients with breast and HPB malignancies, alongside a commitment to the broader medical oncology service.

We are committed to supporting our consultants to deliver excellent care and to thrive professionally. The post includes a generous Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) allocation, flexible job planning, and a structured on-call commitment. Candidates with a strong interest in clinical trials, research, or service development are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applications from full-time and less-than-full-time candidates are equally welcome. This post represents a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact on cancer outcomes in West Norfolk, within a supportive and forward-thinking department.

### Key Responsibilities

Breast Oncology

• Provide consultant-led medical oncology input for patients with early and advanced breast cancer, including the prescribing and oversight of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal treatments.

• Lead and participate in breast oncology outpatient clinics, including new patient consultations, treatment review, and survivorship follow-up.

• Contribute to the Breast MDT, working collaboratively with breast surgery, clinical oncology, radiology, pathology, and breast care nursing colleagues.

• Oversee the management of complex breast cancer presentations, including metastatic disease, endocrine resistance, and HER2-positive and triple-negative subtypes.

• Support the development and delivery of clinical trials and research activity within the breast oncology programme.

Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Oncology

• Provide medical oncology input for patients with HPB malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, pancreatic cancer, and gallbladder cancer.

• Lead and participate in HPB oncology outpatient clinics, including systemic therapy initiation, toxicity management, and palliative treatment planning.

• Contribute to the HPB MDT, working closely with hepatobiliary surgery, gastroenterology, interventional radiology, hepatology, and palliative care colleagues.

• Oversee SACT prescribing for HPB tumour types, including gemcitabine-based regimens, targeted agents, and immunotherapy combinations.

• Engage with regional HPB cancer networks and tumour-specific pathway groups to ensure access to the most current treatment options for patients.

General Medical Oncology & Acute Cover

• Contribute to the general medical oncology service, including cross-cover for other tumour sites as required by departmental need.

• Participate in the medical oncology on-call rota, providing consultant-level advice and decision-making for acutely unwell oncology patients.

• Oversee the safe management of oncological emergencies including neutropenic sepsis, hypercalcaemia, spinal cord compression, and immunotherapy-related toxicity.

• Support the SACT unit and nursing team in the safe delivery of systemic treatments in line with Trust prescribing policies and national guidelines.

### Essential Criteria to Apply

Qualifications & Registration

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.

• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Medical Oncology, or within six months of eligibility at the time of interview.

• MRCP (UK) or equivalent specialist qualification.

• Completion of a recognised higher specialty training programme in Medical Oncology, with demonstrable subspecialty experience in breast and/or HPB oncology.
