## Description (the employer's text)

Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are searching for a EHS Specialist to join our team.

### Position Description

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving Oklo's Environment, Health & Safety programs across our offices, laboratories, test facilities, and future construction and plant sites. You will help build a safety culture that fits a fast-moving advanced fission company, one where safety is a shared responsibility and a driver of excellence rather than a box-checking exercise.

### Specific responsibilities may include

- Develop, maintain, and implement EHS policies, programs, and procedures that comply with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations
- Conduct workplace hazard assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety inspections, and drive corrective actions to closure
- Lead incident reporting and investigation, including root cause analysis and lessons learned
- Manage environmental compliance activities, including permitting, waste management, and reporting
- Develop and deliver EHS training for employees, contractors, and visitors
- Support industrial hygiene, chemical safety, and hazardous materials management programs
- Partner with engineering, operations, construction, and licensing teams to embed safety into design, procedures, and daily work
- Track EHS metrics and report on performance and trends to leadership
- Support emergency preparedness and response planning
- Stay current on regulatory developments and industry best practices in nuclear, energy, and industrial safety
### Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years years of experience in an EHS role in industrial, laboratory, construction, energy, or nuclear settings
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements
- Experience conducting incident investigations and hazard assessments
### Bonus Qualifications

- Professional certification such as CHST, CSP, CIH, or ASP
- Experience in nuclear, DOE, or NRC-regulated environments
- Experience supporting construction or commissioning of industrial or energy facilities
- Experience building or scaling EHS programs in a startup or high-growth company
### Competencies

We are looking for an EHS Specialist that is:

- Technically strong in EHS regulations, risk assessment, and program management
- A practical, solutions-oriented partner who helps teams work safely and efficiently rather than slowing them down
- Passionate about clean energy
- An optimist at heart
- Passionate about making advanced fission a reality
- Willing and able to learn quickly
- Willing to think differently and do things in new ways
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment
- Excited to think creatively, critically, and reflectively about the problems they are solving while not leaning only on what has been done before
- Willing to propose novel and creative solutions to safety and compliance challenges
- An excellent writer who can write in a modern active voice, so make your cover letter compelling and write it well!
- Able to communicate technical content and results verbally
### Who you are

A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that.

Motivated: You are self-motivated. You bring an enthusiasm to the team, and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance! It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals.

A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others. We do incredible things because we work as a team.
