About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.

Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

As a Construction Field Engineer at General Matter, you'll be on the ground in Paducah from the first months of construction on our flagship uranium enrichment facility. It's a first-of-a-kind plant being built on the site of the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, which helped fuel America for sixty years. You'll be the link between design and the field. You'll turn drawings and specifications into installed work, catch problems before they cost the schedule, and build the record that shows the plant was built right.

Most new-grad field engineers start at a large contractor, as one of dozens on a job, and get moved to a new state every eighteen months. Here you'll sit on the owner's team for one project of national importance. You'll own real scopes of work early and work directly alongside the superintendents, engineers, and quality team delivering it. You'll see how a nuclear facility comes together from cleared ground to turnover, and you'll help build it.

If you seek high impact and are excited by fast-paced, intense, Skunkworks-style projects, we encourage you to apply to join our team.

Responsibilities

Field Engineering & Constructability

  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for craft and subcontractor crews, and flag constructability issues to engineering before they reach the field
  • Draft and track RFIs and submittals for assigned work packages from the first question through the engineering response and closure
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, track installed quantities and percent complete, and report field progress to project controls and the master schedule
  • Verify survey, layout, and as-built data for foundations, embeds, underground utilities, and structural steel
  • Coordinate material deliveries, laydown, and equipment needs with superintendents and subcontractors to keep work fronts moving

Quality & Documentation

  • Coordinate inspection and test plan hold points with Quality Control, and help verify that installed work meets drawings, specifications, and nuclear quality requirements
  • Maintain daily reports, progress photos, and field records that become part of the facility's permanent quality and turnover record
  • Support punch-list walks, as-built markups, and turnover package preparation for completed systems

Safety & Field Coordination

  • Help prepare Job Hazard Analyses and take part in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field safety walks
  • Serve as the day-to-day field contact for subcontractor foremen on assigned scopes, raising issues early and closing them out quickly
  • Grow into ownership of a defined scope of work, such as a site utility system or a building's foundations, from mobilization through turnover

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management, completed by [Month 2027]
  • Evidence of exceptional ability (construction internships or co-ops, engineering competition teams, hands-on projects, completed builds, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work outdoors on an active construction site in all weather conditions, including walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders and stairs, and wearing required PPE
