About the Role

You will be part of a cross-functional agile engineering team (squad) responsible to build, deploy and run (support) one or more of our digital products. We are looking for a Software Engineer with a strong back-end focus and full-stack awareness, to build robust & resilient systems, from the APIs and services to the front-end that consumes them.

You will work closely with Engineers, Product, Design, and other stakeholders, collaboratively ensuring quality gets built in the product, get to see your impact in everyday lives of many people, and having great fun while doing it.

You will share your learnings within your team (squad) and help upskill budding engineers on good engineering practices.

Please note: this role is primarily back-end focused. We are looking for engineers whose core strength is building APIs and services, not front-end-only profiles.

What will you do

Work with engineers and product owners to refine requirements and develop the product, from concept to implementation.
Be a core contributor in creating best-in-class product & experience for our customers by designing, building, scaling and evolving our back-end platforms, services, and tools.
Communicate, collaborate and work effectively across cross-functional teams in a multi-cultural, distributed environment.
Ensure the performance, security, and responsiveness of the applications built.
Continuously improve code quality, automation and customer delight, advocating best practices in every pull request.

What you need to have

At least 5+ years of professional experience in software development, mainly on the back-end, building and maintaining scalable applications.
Good written and spoken English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Hands-on expertise in Java or JavaScript/TypeScript and their ecosystems (Spring Boot, Node.js, Kotlin, etc.) for back-end development.
Solid understanding of the building blocks of resilient back-end systems (APIs, databases, messaging, idempotency, retries).
Experience with Lean/XP practices (TDD, Pair Programming, Continuous Integration/Delivery).
Experience working in Agile software development.
Working knowledge of front-end or mobile development (Flutter preferred, or React/Vue), enough to contribute across the stack and collaborate closely with front-end engineers.
You care about software architecture across the APIs, back-end services, and the UI that they power.
A passion for quality and best practices, with the pragmatism to balance perfection and delivering value in a timely manner.
You enjoy sharing knowledge and helping more junior engineers grow.
