## Description (the employer's text)

P-211

At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world's toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world's best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business. Founded by engineers — and customer obsessed — we leap at every opportunity to tackle technical challenges, from designing next-gen UI/UX for interfacing with data to scaling our services and infrastructure across millions of virtual machines. And we're only getting started.

The Access Management team owns the core systems that determine what users, applications, and automated workloads can do across Databricks. In this role, you will set technical direction for the platform's authorization service, unify permission checking, build fine-grained access controls and network ingress policies, and improve service availability, reliability, and performance.

The Impact You Will Have

- Define technical strategy and architectural direction for access management and authorization systems across the Databricks platform.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance permissions services that support fine-grained access controls and network ingress policies.
- Drive cross-team technical initiatives to unify permission checking and improve security posture across multiple services.
- Own critical system reliability, availability, and performance at scale, ensuring high SLAs for access management infrastructure.
- Mentor senior engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization through design reviews, technical guidance, and engineering best practices.
What We Look For

- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in access management, identity systems, or authorization frameworks, with experience building and operating production security infrastructure.
- Expert-level experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems with strong fundamentals in concurrency, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms.
- Experience with software security and systems that handle sensitive data, including authentication, authorization, and compliance requirements.
- Track record of leading complex technical projects from conception through delivery, involving multiple teams or system boundaries.
- Ability to influence technical direction at the team and organizational level through strong technical judgment and clear communication.
- Experience with one or more programming languages including Java, Scala, C++, or Go.
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
