Combine Market Surveillance Expertise with AI Engineering to Transform Trading Compliance

The Role

At Capco, we're looking for an AI Engineer who combines a strong understanding of market surveillance and trading compliance with hands-on AI and software engineering experience.

You'll help leading financial institutions enhance their market surveillance capabilities by applying AI and automation to workflows involving alert investigation, trading-pattern analysis, evidence gathering and exception handling.

Working at the intersection of capital markets, compliance and technology, you'll use your understanding of trading activity, equities, derivatives and market data to develop practical solutions that support more efficient surveillance processes.

You'll collaborate with surveillance, compliance and technology stakeholders to translate operational requirements into AI-enabled analytical and workflow solutions, helping improve the efficiency, consistency and scalability of market surveillance activities.

What You’ll Do

Develop and implement AI-enabled solutions to support market surveillance workflows, including alert investigation, trading-pattern analysis, evidence gathering and exception handling.

Apply market surveillance and trading compliance expertise to understand trading behaviours, surveillance alerts, investigation requirements and potential market abuse indicators across equities and derivatives.

Use Python, SQL and relevant AI technologies, including machine learning (ML) or large language models (LLMs), to analyse trading activity and support surveillance automation.

Work with order, trade and market data to identify patterns, investigate anomalies and support the development of analytical and surveillance capabilities.

Collaborate with surveillance, compliance and technology teams to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions that improve investigation workflows and operational efficiency.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of relevant experience in market surveillance, trading compliance, market operations or related capital markets technology.

Strong understanding of market surveillance activities, including equities, derivatives, trading activity, alert investigation and surveillance workflows.

Hands-on AI or software engineering experience, with practical skills in Python, SQL and machine learning or LLM-based technologies.

Experience working with order, trade or market data, including analysing trading activity and supporting surveillance or compliance-related processes.

Ability to combine market surveillance knowledge with technical problem-solving, translating operational requirements into analytical, automation or AI-enabled workflow solutions.

Bonus Points For

Familiarity with market surveillance platforms such as Nasdaq SMARTS or NICE Actimize.

Experience with streaming data, anomaly detection or real-time analytics within trading or surveillance environments.

Experience as a Surveillance Technology Developer, Market Surveillance Analyst with engineering experience, or AI Engineer with capital markets surveillance exposure.

Exposure to developing analytical or automation solutions that support surveillance alert investigation, evidence gathering or exception management.

Understanding of market abuse detection, surveillance controls and regulatory compliance processes within capital markets.
