## Description (the employer's text)

### Who we are

For decades, insurance software has been built around rigid forms, portals and call centers that create friction for customers and slow teams down. Even as AI has advanced, most insurance work remains manual and spread across disconnected systems.

General Magic builds AI agents that handle quoting, customer service, underwriting, follow-ups and broker communication, connected directly to carrier, MGA and broker systems. We've raised $7.2M USD from Radical Ventures, a16z and several AI leaders.

We reward people who thrive with high autonomy, love shipping quickly and want real ownership. We work onsite in Toronto five days a week.

### The role

You'll own the products brokers and their customers use every day, from frontend interfaces to backend services, APIs and the infrastructure underneath.

We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer who can take ideas from concept to production without needing a detailed spec. We're a flat team where engineers own their work, challenge assumptions and help shape what gets built. You'll work directly with the founders and ship features that real customers rely on.

### In this role, you will

Build and own features across the full stack, including frontend, backend, APIs and data models

Develop the interfaces brokers use every day and the customer-facing channels our AI agents operate through, including SMS and iMessage

Design and maintain the architecture connecting our products and services

Own your infrastructure, define it as code, deploy it and keep it running

Work across different parts of the codebase, building on other engineers' work and helping connect systems

Ship to production every week and take responsibility for the quality and reliability of what customers experience

Work directly with the founders to shape product decisions and decide what gets built

### For this role, you should have

Strong experience with TypeScript, React and modern full-stack development

Experience with SQL, APIs and backend development

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, ideally GCP and Cloudflare

Experience with Docker and infrastructure as code

Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex or similar

Ability to work independently, make technical decisions and own features from start to finish

Willingness to learn and work with tools such as TanStack Start and StyleX

Experience with functional programming, RPC, Effect (TypeScript) and system design is a plus.

### Compensation and benefits

$130K–$200K+ CAD base salary, depending on experience, plus equity

Health and dental benefits

Wellness benefits

Dinner covered when working in the office past 7:30 PM

Expenses covered for conferences, tools and anything you need to do your job well

Direct ownership of products deployed to real customers

Work alongside experienced operators, engineers and founders who care deeply about what they build
