## Description (the employer's text)

### About Brighterway

Brighterway builds AI-native claims software and administration for casualty claims. We started in workers' compensation medical-legal review, where our agentic document pipeline sorts, de-duplicates and summarizes some of the most document-heavy files in the industry for national medical-evaluation networks. We are now building the claims platform on top of that foundation: intake across mail, fax, phone and email, bill review, subrogation, reserving signals, a workflow language, and state and federal reporting.

We are backed by Y Combinator and Maverick Ventures. Our customers handle protected health information every day, so we run HIPAA, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 programs. The team is small and technical and sits close to customers. Everyone ships, and everyone talks to the people who use what they ship.

### The role

You will build the claims platform that sits on top of our document intelligence: claim intake across channels, work queues, bill review, subrogation, policy management, and a workflow language that lets non-engineers describe how a claim should move. This is greenfield product work with real customers already using it.

### What you will do

Design and ship full-stack features across a TypeScript and React front end and Python and Node services on GCP.

Own data models for claims, documents, parties and events, with the audit trail a regulated industry requires.

Build the execution engine behind our workflow language and the editor people use to author workflows.

Integrate with carrier and state reporting systems (EDI, FROI/SROI, state-specific reporting).

Keep the platform secure and compliant: access controls, logging, PHI handling, SOC 2 evidence.

### What we look for

4+ years of professional software engineering with ownership of significant systems.

Strong TypeScript or Python, and good judgment about data modeling and system boundaries.

You have built products that real users depend on and you care about correctness.

You are comfortable in a small team where you set much of your own direction.

### Nice to have

Insurance, claims, healthcare or fintech experience.

Firestore or other document databases, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, or serverless architectures.

Rules engines, DSLs or workflow systems.

### How we work

Small team, high trust, direct access to founders and customers.

We ship to production weekly and measure ourselves on customer outcomes.

Competitive salary and meaningful equity. Health, dental and vision coverage. Flexible time off.

Brighterway is an equal opportunity employer.
