A Rare Opportunity to Shape the Future of Genomics

Join a team of brilliant, passionate innovators determined to transform healthcare. At BillionToOne, we've built a category-defining, publicly traded company on Nasdaq where transparency fuels trust, collaboration drives breakthroughs, and every contribution moves the needle on our mission to make life-changing diagnostics accessible to all. We don't just aim for incremental improvements; we build products that are 10x better than anything that exists today.

Our scientists, engineers, sales executives, and visionaries are united by an unwavering commitment to changing the standard of care in prenatal and cancer diagnostics. This is where cutting-edge science meets human compassion, and every innovation you contribute helps remove the fear of the unknown from some of life's most critical medical moments.

If you're driven by purpose, energized by innovation, and ready to help shape the future of precision medicine at scale, this is where you belong.

We are looking for a Development Associate to join our growing superstar Oncology Development and Process Engineering team in support of clinical patient testing in our high throughput CLIA lab.

This role will enable an individual to gain both deep and broad experience in the areas of molecular assay development, data analysis, experimental design, and automation. The work we do is rewarding and fast paced. It presents many opportunities to deepen your knowledge of the field. This is an on-site role and will require the majority of days to be spent in the Menlo Park office.

Responsibilities

Assay & Method Development: Develop and extend current assays to better fit evolving clinical needs, with support from scientists, engineers, and other technical staff

Computational Data Analysis: Apply the analytical and computational methods used in current assays, and build upon them to enable new capabilities; develop, implement, and use software tools to quantitatively analyze experiments and processes, requiring moderate proficiency in R or Python

Validation & Regulatory Compliance: Support assay validations and derisking under regulatory and design control frameworks (FDA, MolDx, etc.)

Scientific Communication: Present technical findings and project updates verbally at group meetings and via internal written reports

Wet Lab Execution: Carry out experiments in lab and document experimental procedures and results, and contribute to routine organization of the R&D lab

Tech Transfer: Partner across departments to transfer and scale developed assays and workflows into high-throughput clinical laboratory operations.

Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Apply sound engineering practices to scale, optimize, and improve molecular biology methods; systematically identify and investigate root sources of variation to develop short-term corrections and long-term preventative measures

Requirements

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biophysics, or related fields

At least 12 months of experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, electrophoresis, DNA purifications) in a research or clinical laboratory (can be during or after Bachelor’s degree)

Solid foundation in quantitative data analysis, statistics, and experimental design, with familiarity using R or Python (and a strong willingness to expand computational skills).

Clear verbal and written communication skills in reporting to cross-functional teams of scientists and non-scientists

Proven experimental troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills with sharp attention to detail

Nice-To-Haves

Start-up experience

Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and/or cell-free DNA

Previous experience with liquid handling or other laboratory automation

Knowledge of molecular oncology

Experience with composing protocols of standard molecular biology techniques

Benefits And Perks

Working alongside brilliant, kind, passionate and dedicated colleagues, in an empowering environment, toward a global vision, striving for a future in which transformative molecular diagnostics can help millions of patients
